Become a Leader

REAL Durham Leaders are committed to

  • Being transparent and vulnerable with Allies

  • Being transformed

  • Changing the way in which they use/manage/invest their own finances

  • Changing norms and status quo

  • Being involved in an economic or racial justice movement

  • Supporting and contributing to REAL Durham’s goals and activities that build community financial stability (see Our Model)

REAL Durham Leader requirements:

  • Commitment to the mission of REAL Durham

  • Complete REAL Durham Intake Interview and goal-setting process with Real Durham staff

  • Monthly relationship-building activities for Allies and Leaders

  • Attend bi-monthly Community Gatherings

  • Participate in monthly check-in calls with REAL Durham staff

Become an Ally

REAL Durham Allies are committed to

  • Being transparent and vulnerable with Leaders

  • Sharing in the sufferings and struggle with Leaders

  • Being transformed

  • Changing the way in which they use/manage/invest their own finances

  • Losing the superman/woman or savior mentality

  • On-going anti-poverty, anti-racism, and cultural competency education and training

  • Changing norms and status quo

  • Sharing and/or giving up power when needed

  • Being involved in an economic or racial justice movement

  • Supporting and contributing to REAL Durham’s goals and activities that build community financial stability
    (see Our Model)

REAL Durham Ally Requirements:

  • Express commitment to the mission of REAL Durham

  • Complete the Allies and Leaders Cohort
    Development Trainings

  • Complete Racial Equity Training with Racial Equity Institute, or equivalent

  • Complete Intake Interview and goal-setting process
    with REAL Durham Staff

  • Participate in quarterly peer-to-peer reflection and support workgroups for Leaders and Allies

  • Participate in monthly relationship-building activities
    for Allies and Leaders  

  • Attend bi-monthly Community Gatherings

  • Participate in monthly check-in calls with REAL Durham Staff

Volunteer

There are plenty of other ways to get involved with REAL Durham, from childcare and transportation, to assisting with administrative tasks or special events.
